Zenefits is ok. I think the most confusing part about Zenefits has been tracking and integrating our health care plan. It’s helpful to have all of our HR in one place. I’m not really attached to using it.
LinkedIn is a great tool, but I like it less and less now that I’m in the cannabis industry. LinkedIn has created a verified level of legitimacy. It makes people appear more interesting, stronger; they’re more real. However, there is a lot of noise on LinkedIn relating to the cannabis industry. My inbox is full of random people looking to get into the cannabis industry that aren’t that qualified. It’s hard to separate quality talent, quality companies, and quality information on LinkedIn.
Because of the nature of the industry we’re in, a lot of our communication is sensitive. We go to extremes to protect internal communication. We use WhatsApp sometimes for messaging.
We use Telegram for messaging.
We use Silent Circle for phone calls or encrypted conferencing.
Intuit Payroll has been phenomenal. The dashboard is super helpful. It’s easy to pay people and track everything. We switched from Paychex because it was a little too expensive. The dashboard in Paychex didn’t make us loyal to the brand.
We worked with Basecamp before switching to Asana. I have personally spent a lot of time investigating a lot of project management tools because I’ve never really been satisfied. They tend to be too structured and rigid or overly complicated. Asana is a little on the structured side, but it has definitely been the best centralized way for us to keep track of the various things that have been going on.
