Streak is good for us because we're so small. We don't need heavy-duty customization like Salesforce would have. Once we have more employees, we plan to move to something a bit stronger, but right now Streak works well.
Without question, Slack is the right choice for internal communication. The dedicated desktop and mobile apps are top-notch, and the features are robust. To top it all off, Slack has an incredible slew of integrations available: GitHub, Trello, MailChimp, Groove and many more.
We chose Balanced because we do project management and rent collection, and Balanced had better pricing for rent payments. Balanced was then bought by Stripe, so now we’re using that.
The gold standard in customer service software seems to be Zendesk, but I like the simple and straightforward nature of Groove much better. We use it to show which properties our customers own or tenants rent.

It's very simple to set up--you don't have to worry about maintaining a database--and it also it has a web-based graphical user interface. You can look at your database and manipulate the data right from the browser, which is extremely handy.
ZenPayroll is everything you could ever hope for in a tool: It’s easy to use, beautiful to look at and generally affordable. Setup was a breeze, and they handle a lot of the sticky tax business that so many early-stage companies screw up.
