RStudio reviews from startup founders

Feb. 3, 2018

R is extremely important for us in all the statistical analysis we do. It is my biggest recommendation for data people. It is open source software for analytical purposes. If you have big data or data sets, you can apply statistical analysis using the R language or RStudio. It is crowdsourced, so there’s no commercial business and it’s free. Everyone is making packages and if someone figures out a nice trick to do data, they create a package and publish it so everyone can use it for free. In academics, it has been popular for almost 10 years and now guys that are going to college are learning that people used to depend on commercial more, but now universities get the point that because it’s crowd-based, it is better and faster data than commercially available options. There is the big risk that you don’t have support from a professional support team, but you have the crowd to support you in everything you need for free basically. We’re a small company and one reason we didn’t need to find funding is that our tools were free to start and it’s how we became profitable.
